Why Leave a Legacy? 5 Undeniable Reasons

- By Dwaipayan, 18 August 2020 | 4 MIN READ

Leaving a legacy for others to follow is part of what drives people to do meaningful things. Make sure that those who come after you will have a trail to follow as well. You see, leaving a legacy is important. Many who lived impacted our lives today. These are the people we knew, the folks we lived with, and who influenced us deeply, for better and sometimes for worse. How we live our lives is critically important. I want to challenge you to look at how you live. I want to challenge you to think deeply about the major areas of your life where you can and should leave a legacy.

Think about people who left behind a legacy for us to follow and for you

· Your parents

· Your grandparents

· Your aunts and uncles

· Your school teachers

· Your coaches

· Mahatma Gandhi, the power behind India’s Freedom

· Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who saw us through the Great Depression

Why Leaving a legacy important?

1. Legacy prepares you for the ongoing foundation of life. Those who have come before leaving us the world we live in. Those who come after us will have what we leave them. This is a process of life and we need to walk ahead. Believe in us as the guardians of this world, and we have a calling on our lives to leave a better world for the coming generations.

2. Choosing the power of GOOD over EVIL

Some people have changed the world for good, people who have opened up new worlds for millions of others, people who have spurred others on to new heights. And, on the other hand, some people created havoc for millions. Do you remember the nightmare of the Nazi concentration camps devised by Hitler which killed millions? Our lives have the power to create good or evil and we must choose to do good.

3. It’s your responsibility to leave a legacy

We must put efforts to take responsibility, to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine. Leaving a legacy makes us good and honorable - A foundational part of our lives based on the goal of leaving a legacy.

4. The act of selfishness that can be inherent in us all

Act of selflessness can only be beneficial for everyone. We’re talking about legacies that make life better for those who come after us, not about our fame or recognition, but about helping others. Sometime after we will not be here to watch our legacy. But our act of selfless will live forever.

5. Let’s be focussed on the big picture

When we are acting based on selfishness, personal expediency, and the like, we are focusing on the “small picture” Whilst, the Legacy building is part of the “big picture.” It keeps us focused on the long term and offers us values that we can judge our actions. Think of the effect on your overall goals? How will this influence people in the years to come? Remember your legacy is important in big or humble ways.
