- By Shalini K, 20 October 2020 | 5 MIN READ

Social media has surfaced to be a formidable platform for advertisement, communication, reviews of all sorts, and can be leveraged for profits and businesses. This blog post is about how students can effectively leverage social media and take advantage.

1. Learning, Networking & Exchanging Ideas

Learning has gone beyond classrooms, promoted in the leading e-learning website. Students can benefit from e-learning websites and discuss their learning’s or doubts using various social media channels. Platforms such as Udemy, Coursera, YouTube, upgrad, etc are fantastic for learning new skills and earning a certificate. Students can take advantage of live video and engage themselves in online classes. By moving a step ahead, students can share their learnings through social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, and even Whats App.

While taking benefits from the social media platform, students should remain connected to peers. Students can access wide student communities and build a strong network. Networking via social media helps students to get to know about the activities and events happening in and around them. They can collectively participate in Hackathons, Quizzes, Sudoku, Marathon, Sports, Cultural competitions, and many more.

2. Expressing Creativity

Students can express themselves on social media while staying close to their comfort zones. Some students are sensitive to their surroundings and do not open up. With the power of social media, they can express themselves. They can post blogs, share a picture, articles, videos, audio clips, etc and explore their talents.

We see a good number of students with YouTube channels where they upload videos and based on the number of views and subscribers, they get paid. One particularly – IITian.me a blog by Ninging Niumai from Manipur is doing rounds on social media.

There are multiple read-made platforms available which can be put into use, you may want to check website builders and choose the right one for your requirement.

3. Global Exposure

The world is at our fingertips with Social media, students can connect with anyone in the world. Social Media pages, groups can bring to you the diverse cultures present around the world. That includes culture, traditions, language, lifestyle, food, and habits. Students can even learn about the different courses present in universities situated globally and interact for additional details.

Students can share their ideas and thoughts on a global platform. Social Media offers you an identity.

4. Job Opportunity

Landing up with a job is not that easy after you graduate. By keeping a constant tap on social media students can learn about the right opening for them. Companies share their job postings on social media regularly. LinkedIn is one such social media platform where students apply for internships and jobs extensively.

A handful of social media platforms also provide ratings given to a particular company. Students can know about the company before applying for a job with them. They can post any of their projects or models which they have constructed and get noticed too.

5. Social Media Marketing

Students have the opportunity to promote college festivals or activities using social media. Every college has a cultural fest every year and social media can take it from there.

They can put a craft on social media to advertise – One of the easiest and best ways to promote. Social media is a very good platform for fundraising. More people in social media means more funds they generate. We can even sell anything on social media. For example, to endorse or sell Vintage Watches campus ambassador programs can be arranged, where a student from each college represents the brand and promotes the brand online.

Social media is a revolution today. Newspaper is one thing that belonged in the morning, social media kind of replaced it. We’re all addicted to social media in one or the other way. If used wisely will reap benefits, otherwise, it can be awful.
