Study: Immune System Restarts While Asleep

By wochit 06 January 2017

A new study shows that the immune system reboots itself while a person sleeps. Fourteen men around the age of 25 were tested during a full night’s sleep and during a night of no sleep. When the men were asleep, their white blood cell count dropped and when they were awake all night, their white blood cells stayed active within the bloodstream. Previous studies suggest that the white blood cells disappear into the lymph nodes while one sleeps. Researchers still are not sure why, but according to author Luciana Besedovsky, “Even one night without sleep affects the adaptive immune system.”
