NASA's Mars Orbiter Spots Hole In Surface

By Editor 09 June 2017

NASA spotted a hole in the surface of Mars recently.
Captured by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, the deep and circular formation on the Red Planet apparently penetrates through ice and dust.
Although the southern hemisphere’s topography is pot-marked with shallow pits due to carbon dioxide ice, the hole is more of a dimple.
For now, NASA thinks that the hole formed when a pit collapsed, or, that spot may have experienced an impact from an asteroid.
The depression is the first circular feature that NASA has spotted in the southern hemisphere using the MRO.
