Astrophysicist Finds Rare Circular Galaxy

By wochit 05 January 2017

An astrophysicist from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences has discovered a unique galaxy in the observable universe. In existence 359 million light-years from Earth, the small galaxy is more circular than elliptical, similar to a Hoag-type galaxy.According to Patrick Treuthardt, those galaxies are exponentially rare, with one estimate suggesting they make up 0.1% of the observable galaxies in the universe. But the galaxy has another peculiar feature that makes it unique among the rare classification of galaxies. At the heart of the galaxy a diffused inner ring surrounds the 5.5 billion year-old round red core.
